Diversional Therapy Program

The Diversional Therapist, assisted by staff and team of volunteers, coordinates this program for members who are:

  • Frail aged and/or with a disability attending Monday to Friday with groups up to 40 members per day.
  • Young people with a disability aged between 18-60 years attending on a Wednesday. The group is limited to 32 members. Members of this Wednesday program and those on the waiting list are able to participate in a recreation program. Refer to information about the Recreation Program – Wanderers Group.

Activities at the Cottage are arranged in consultation with the members and vary from day to day. An activity program is distributed giving members details of activities for a 6 week period. Activities include craft, painting, leatherwork, wood burning, guest speakers, games and quizzes.

Transport

This is provided to and from the persons home. All vehicles are equipped with hoists for people in wheelchairs or those unable to enter via the stairs.

If unable to attend, members are asked to advise the Cottage as soon as possible, so the bus driver can be advised not to call. An answering machine will take messages after hours.

Subscriptions
Members pay a Daily Subscription Fee of $10.00 for each day of attendance. This helps cover the operating costs. Volunteers should note that they are NOT required to pay this fee.      NOTE: A midday meal is provided for members.

Outings
Outings are provided every fifth week and include visits to many local and regional places of interest. Where an admission fee or other expenditure is involved, members will be advised of the cost. If members agree to participate they will contribute that cost in addition to the daily subscription fee.

When a volunteer attends outings to assist the members, all out of pocket expenses will be paid by Myrtle Cottage within reason.

Community Link Line Program

This telephone conferencing program has been designed to reach those who cannot participate in the Divisional Therapy Program or members who need the additional support provided by this program.

Our telephone system allows our coordinator to involve up to 7 people from the community in a program run over the phone, with each session lasting approx. 1 hour.  It involves general discussion, guest speakers, games, quizzes and craft activities. Members can also join in outings with members of the Divisional Therapy program.

There is no cost to participate in this program.

The Bell (Dementia) Program

This program has been designed to provide activities for people who have Dementia and to give their carers quality periods of respite.

The Bell (Dementia) Program operates Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, covering the Campbelltown LGA.

The Outreach (Dementia) Program operates in the Camden and Wollondilly areas on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Programs are run from rented premises in Mount Annan, The Oaks and Bargo.

The number of days members attend per week is dependent on the needs of the carer or member and our ability to offer respite.

The number attending each day depends on the level of dementia of those participating and the ability of staff and volunteers to support those attending.

A daily fee of $10.00 helps offset the costs of running the program and includes transport and a mid-day meal.

Volunteers assist by helping the members with activities, cooking and feeding  where necessary. Dementia is a condition, which requires staff and volunteers with patience and a very caring nature.

Our Coordinator and Assistants are very experienced in dealing with people who have Dementia and can provide advice and information to each carer. A booklet is available to assist  carers as circumstances change.

People with dementia living in the Appin and Menangle areas also participate in this program at Ingleburn.
